THX Balanced Bass-line technology is incorporated into the world’s first THX Certified Ultra2 in-wall subwoofer from BG. The new BG BX-4850 in-wall subwoofer boasts a slim, yet elegant speaker design that disappears into any room décor. But the real story is what happens behind the speaker grill.
The THX Balanced Bass-line technology has enabled BG to take a unique approach to in-wall subwoofer design. Traditional in-wall subs have one or two drivers placed in a back box in the wall. However, this approach can often result in distracting wall vibrations. By contrast, THX Balanced Bass-line consists of four modules, each containing 12 micro-precision woofers mounted in their own enclosures and arranged in balanced pairs. Because the subwoofer modules are entirely self-contained, they do not rely on the wall cavity in which they reside, or a separate back-box, to deliver resonance-free, natural bass.
This modular approach also enables a very narrow speaker design, perfect for high-end home theater installations. The 48 woofers have a total radiating area equal to two 18 inch drivers, yet fit completely inside a standard 2x4-inch stud-wall. All that is visible to the listener is a tall, slim grill 26 inches high and just 4 inches wide (per module). And the use of multiple modules provides more uniformed coverage throughout the listening environment.
