SAN FRANCISCO, Oct. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — THX Ltd. today announced the appointment of Scott Francis in the newly created position of Chief Technology Officer, who will be responsible for all technology-related resources, workflow and staff in areas of engineering. Francis will work closely with THX CEO Ty Ahmad-Taylor and will be based in THX’s San Francisco office. Francis brings over 20 years of experience managing extremely complex and technical products and services. With a background in mixed hardware and software, Francis has a passion for delivering high quality audio-visual entertainment experiences – a commitment he has sought after and delivered on throughout his entire career. From working on the very first desktop computer hardware to newer audio-inclusive digital signage in retail environments, he has focused on putting the best possible experience into the hands and minds of consumers. This same mindset – of enhancing first class content worthy of the best treatment – is what Francis plans to bring to THX. “I could not be more excited to join THX during this exciting period of growth and development, when new technologies such as VR are rapidly becoming a part of our cultural norm,” said Francis. “VR is where film was in 1915 – it’s the early days, and I’m thrilled to be a part of an innovative, risk-taking team at the cutting edge of exploring this new frontier.” “Scott brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership experience, and is just the type of daring change agent we want on our side as we dive into exploring new and developing technologies,” said Ty Ahmad-Taylor, THX CEO. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the THX family and look forward to seeing his contributions unfold in this upcoming period of growth.” Francis was most notably involved in the development of the very first DV format product, the miro DV-100, which bundled with an application called “story tools” to create the foundation for storyboard editing software, setting the precedent for many video editing tools in use today. At THX, Francis will tap into his expertise to oversee all technical development, including the enhancement and expansion of the technological lines of business, as well as finding ways to feed that information into the certification and optimization programs. Prior to THX, Francis served as the Chief Technology Officer of Entertainment Services and the Senior Vice President of Technicolor Licensing, where he focused on putting first-class technology into the hands of consumers. In a joint venture with Technicolor, he went on to co-found AgencyIP, a patent technology broker agency that marketed patents, source codes and hardware to third party organizations that would put these technologies to use. Francis holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University and a Master’s Degree in Engineering Management. Earlier this month, THX announced that Razer™, the leading global lifestyle brand for gamers, has acquired the majority of the assets of THX Ltd. and brought onboard the management and employees of the company. Under Francis’ leadership, THX will focus on the expansion of its current certification program to include new technologies and the introduction of new programs, as well as a dedicated focus on Virtual Reality. About THX: Founded by legendary filmmaker George Lucas in 1983, THX and its partners provide premium entertainment experiences in the cinema, in the home and on the go.
