{"id":1234,"date":"2017-11-28T07:54:26","date_gmt":"2017-11-27T23:54:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/live-thx-www-0.pantheonsite.io\/?p=1234"},"modified":"2020-05-21T21:46:35","modified_gmt":"2020-05-21T21:46:35","slug":"events-roundup-thx-road","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.thx.com\/blog\/events-roundup-thx-road\/","title":{"rendered":"Global Events Roundup: THX on the Road"},"content":{"rendered":"<b><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aweeu.com\/\">Augmented World Expo<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;<\/b>Munich\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jason Fiber represented THX on a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=MxxN48kisbY\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">panel<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> of experts at AWE Europe: &#8220;Immersive Entertainment: A Look at How AR\/VR is Impacting Music, Film, Gaming and TV&#8221; . &nbsp;AWE is the premier global event for new and emerging technologies in the Augmented and Virtual Reality space. &nbsp;Panelists included:<\/span>\n<ul>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Lauren Bedal &#8211; Senior Interaction Designer, Matter<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Halvor Vislie &#8211; COO, The Future Group<\/span><\/li>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Christoph Minnameier &#8211; Professor, Gamedesign, Mediadesign Hochschule; <\/span><\/li>\n \t<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Robert Young, President, CieAR.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1235\" style=\"width: 2058px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1235\" class=\"wp-image-1235 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thx.com\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Panel-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1365\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-1235\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jason Fiber (left)<\/p><\/div>\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Attendees of AWE were also able to see one of THX\u2019s partners, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osterhoutgroup.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Osterhout Design Group (ODG)<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, (on the show floor. &nbsp;ODG was offering demonstrations of their soon-to-be released <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.osterhoutgroup.com\/r-9-smartglasses\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">R9 smartglasses<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; the world\u2019s first THX Certified AR device. &nbsp;The device is notable for its large field of view (a virtual 120 inch screen), depth of color, and extremely sharp display.<\/span>\n\n<hr>\n\n<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.aes.org\/events\/143\/presenters\/?ID=5878\">Audio Engineering Society: Maximum Audio<\/a>&nbsp;&#8211;&nbsp;<\/strong>New York\n\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick Flanagan, Audio Architect at THX, presented an ongoing research project at Audio Engineer Society (AES) NY. &nbsp;Patrick presented an overview of the research he is leading in conjunction with researchers at NYU. &nbsp;Entitled \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Evaluation of Binaural Renderers: A Methodology,\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Patrick\u2019s research is using perceptual testing methods to understand how different audio processing effects quality. &nbsp;<\/span>\n\n<div id=\"attachment_1240\" style=\"width: 6026px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1240\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1240\" src=\"http:\/\/www.thx.com\/assets\/uploads\/2017\/11\/Patrick-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"6016\" height=\"4016\"><p id=\"caption-attachment-1240\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Patrick Flanagan<\/p><\/div>\n\n&nbsp;\n\nTHX is leading this research effort to establish an objective understanding of how to best render audio for spatial and 3d purposes, whether it is for Virtual Reality, gaming, music, or cinematic experiences. &nbsp;If we can help the industry understand best practices for 3D Audio, we are confident that consumers will benefit in the long run by enhanced immersive experiences in any medium.\n\nAccording to Patrick, \u201cWe were thrilled to share our methodology and host the session at this event. &nbsp;After many great talks about our current industry, it is clear that new research about spatial audio rendering and game development is essential.
