THX officially welcomes SonicPool to our network of THX Certified Post Production studios.

A THX Certified Studio is a motion picture dubbing theater where directors, sound designers and mixers bring soundtracks to life. These studios are meticulously designed to THX performance specifications to accurately capture every bass note, surround effect and piece of dialogue during the mixing session. By focusing on room design and acoustics, including the quality of the studio production equipment, THX provides filmmakers and recording artists the ultimate environment to mix their magic.

Precision engineering: studio acoustics, optimized speaker layouts, THX Approved equipment and calibrated audio/video systems combine to create an ideal environment for sound recording, design and mixing.

Creative and quality control: Provides filmmakers confidence that what they are hearing during mixing sessions will translate the same to the cinema and home.

Neutral studio: THX ensures a transparent environment where the room has minimal effect on the mix

eyeon Software Inc. is dedicated to post production through visual effects and advanced image processing. Home to Fusion™, Rotation®, Dimension®, and Generation® AM, eyeon supports award-winning visual effects and stereoscopic studios, post-production facilities, broadcast networks, game developers, and all manner of visual manipulation artistry worldwide.

Fusion Visual Effects

Fusion™ is a full-featured, OpenGL and OpenCL GPU-accelerated node, timeline, and spline compositing environment, with built-in backend tools via a powerful scripting engine. Fusion offers a combined 2D and real 3D environment for limitless visual effects creativity. eyeon’s universal approach to developing Fusion resulted in the same performance and interactive user experience on Windows as well as Linux, with the same rendering results in mixed OS environments.

CineFusion in Fusion - Click to enlarge

Fusion Color Science

Fusion’s color engine has been widely acclaimed for advanced color management and offers ease-of-design functionality. Fusion’s feature-rich color toolset allows for individual and animated adjustments of every color parameter. Support for color depths, including Integer 8 bit, Integer 16 bit, Float 16 and Float 32, allow for maximum quality and flexibility with the Fusion environment.

Generation AM is an innovative desktop of the acclaimed Generation visual effects toolset. With tight deadlines, revision management and team-based requirements, Generation AM excels at providing a flexible desktop for studios to manage many projects, shots, versions and elements. Customizable, scriptable and designed for teams, Generation AM is simple to integrate and to manage existing production environments.

Rotation is designed specifically to team up with eyeon Fusion for film production pipelines. This suite of tools has been defined for the exacting demands of Rotoscoping, Keying and Retouching. The integrated scripting and bins system allow Rotation to plug together as part of the collaborative workflow. However it has also been adopted by other S3D and conversion environments due to its leading roto capabilities. Large departmentalized film facilities can now use this cost-effective solution to create roto mattes, while retouched clean plates can be funneled to the senior compositing suites for finishing.

Dimension is a new technology that has been developed to offer stereo production facilities the ability to achieve essential image estimation techniques quickly and cost effectively. The focus has been to solve a number of real world S3D production complications, such as polarization color differences from mirror rigs, defocus and timing sync differences between two cameras, alignment tools and many other challenges.

To be effective and successful working in a modern production or post production environment requires knowledge about the issues and challenges related to color science. Regardless of position in the production chain, color plays a major role in telling a powerful story. DoPs and colorists are very sensitive to these issues, but post supervisors, engineers and VFX and animation artists must also have a firm grasp on color for a seamless workflow. In order to use color correctly, it is critical to understand what is seen at every stage in the production process, regardless of the nature of the display and viewing environment.

This webinar includes a brief talk from THX Senior Vice President Rick Dean; he discusses THX’s strategy for supporting improved color management in professional facilities through our product development efforts and our education program.

As Senior Color Scientist at THX, Michael Chenery has been teaching his popular color science classes worldwide for the past five years. In this session, Michael reviews the basics of color science presented in the Color Management 101 webinar and will then instruct how to create and use display profiles in professional facilities. These concepts are valuable for anyone working in color correction, VFX and animation environments.

In this webinar, attendees will learn:

What it means to “profile” a display

Best practices for creating and using color profiles

Differences between different classes of calibration probes, including colorimeters and spectroradiometers

What “decoupling” is

Which colors are most important to measure

Quantel is a world-leading developer of innovative, high performance content creation and delivery systems across post, broadcast and Stereo3D. Quantel’s product range includes: eQ HD finishing systems; iQ multi-resolution DI systems, award-winning Pablo Neo color correction solutions; stereoscopic 3D post systems and integrated news and sports production systems. They all deliver the creative, productive and profitable workflows that give post houses and broadcasters the edge they need to thrive and grow in today’s highly competitive global media market.

Pablo – DI color correction and finishing

Pablo is the ultimate color correction and finishing solution for HD, 2K, 4K and Stereoscopic 3D – proven on thousands of movies, commercials and programs in the hands of leading colorists around the world. It puts all the creative color correction tools at the colorist’s fingertips in an interactive, hands-on color correction environment. Pablo’s powerful color tools all run in a non-linear environment – where changes are easily accommodated at any stage. It also means that the colorist and client can view every shot in its correct editorial – and even compositional – context, transforming the entire post workflow into a fast, collaborative and creative process.

Non-linear, multi-layer, in-context color correction

With Pablo there’s no waiting or wasted time. Its immensely powerful hardware makes color correction a truly interactive process. With Pablo the director can sit with the colorist and instantly see results of changes on screen at full resolution without proxies or previews. Pablo’s non-linear operation gives instant access to any part of the entire project, meaning colorists and directors can instantly see the way individual shot treatments work next to each other, even including dissolves, wipes and other transitions. Nothing is committed until output; the whole project remains live throughout the process so multiple treatments can be quickly tried without penalty.

Every format

Resolution Co-existence means Pablo offers complete format flexibility, able to handle everything from SD and HD to 2K and 4K material simultaneously on the same timeline. Pablo always works with full resolution material in its original format and colorspace, whether it’s HD-RGB, 2K, 4K or CGI files – or a combination of them all.

Stereoscopic 3D

Pablo includes a comprehensive Stereo3D toolset as standard. Pablo’s enormous power offers realtime handling of dual left eye/right eye high resolution media; the Stereo3D toolset takes care of all the issues interactively – just the way clients expect.

Highest quality

Pablo’s high quality processing ensures that the final look exactly matches the director’s vision. This means the director and colorist can have total confidence that what they see on screen is exactly what the viewers will get in the movie theater. Conversion to the target format(s) only happens on output, meaning that ultimate quality is maintained throughout the DI process.

All round DI capabilities

Pablo is more than a color corrector; it is also a complete digital intermediate system in a box. Pablo has everything you might need in the session instantly to hand, from paint and retouching tools to fix problems through to editing functionality that allows directors to change their minds without a hefty time or cost penalty.

This means that Pablo can handle the whole job in an enormously efficient manner, from assembly, pre-viz, effects and of course color correction to trailers, titles and deliverables well as being a highly productive solution for restoration projects. And combining Pablo with Genetic Engineering gives even more efficiency gains.

Deliverables

Deliverables are a key element of the DI process – and a profitable one too. When the color work is done, Pablo has all the tools to enable you to rapidly output versions to cover every need. Re-sizing, reframing, 3D LUTs and pan-and-scan are all handled on-the-fly in realtime on output without having to make copies. Every format is supported from 4:3 and 16:9 SD to HD, 2K and 4K.
