THX AND ONKYO CELEBRATE 10 YEARS OF AUDIO INNOVATION
SAN RAFAEL, Calif., February 16, 2005 -
THX Ltd. and Onkyo® are celebrating a decade of collaboration and innovation. Since 1994, the two companies have worked together to create home entertainment products that push the boundaries of audio performance, enhancing how people around the world experience their favorite movies and music in the home. At a ceremony held in Tokyo in late December, THX executives presented Mr. Naoto Otsuki, President and CEO of Onkyo, with a special plaque commemorating the successful relationship.
"Onkyo has been one of the strongest supporters of THX since the day we first decided to enter the consumer electronics business," said Michael Franzi, Chief Marketing Officer at THX. "We are honored to celebrate this 10-year partnership. Together, we’ve reshaped how consumers experience home entertainment, and we look forward to another decade of innovation."
THX first developed its certification and quality standards for home entertainment products in the early 1990s. The program evolved out of the company’s pioneering work with cinemas and post-production studios, as well as its early film mastering services. THX received early support from Onkyo. The company served as the driving forces behind developing the industry’s first THX Certified audio-video receiver—the Onkyo TX-SV919THX. Ten years later, the Onkyo and THX collaboration has provided consumers with numerous THX Certified products, including loudspeakers, DVD players, pre-amplifiers, power amps and the first 7.1 channel home theater receiver.
To commemorate this anniversary, Onkyo produced a limited edition THX™ Select™ Certified AV receiver bundled with a 6.1 loudspeaker system. The Onkyo HT-S870 system includes THX™ Surround EX™ and comes equipped with a special 10th Anniversary THX Demo DVD.
